Our research programme is designed to support young researchers as well as established scientists and institutions in their efforts to find a cure for diabetes. The Foundation is actively looking for research projects in Sweden and around the world that will eventually lead to improved treatment methods and, hopefully, a working cure for people with diabetes. Diabetes Wellness Sverige

Diabetes Wellness Sverige is pleased to announce a new deadline for its Innovation in Diabetes Research Grants.

Maximum award - 200 000 SEK

Applications can be ​in the field of basic, clinical or translational research in any area of diabetes including causes, complications, treatment and prevention.

This award is aimed at early to mid-career researchers, and applicants should have no more than seven years post-doctoral experience (career breaks will be taken into consideration on a case-to-case basis).

Applications will only be considered from researchers working at Swedish research institutions. Please ensure the application is written in English.

Applications must be received on or before 17.00, Friday 5 June, 2026.

All submitted applications will be available for the applicant to download at a later date.

Before completing the Application Form and the Digital Signature Page, please read the Application Guidelines. Please ensure that you provide all the information requested and adhere to the word limit. Failure to comply will automatically lead to the rejection of your application.

All applications received by Diabetes Wellness Sweden will be treated confidentially and will be registered and reviewed by the Advisory Committee.

Applicants should read the following documents:
Diabetes Wellness Sweden's research strategy is to fund projects that focus on:
  • Prevention, complications and treatment of diabetes
  • Causes of diabetes
  • Cures for diabetes

Priority is given to funding research that has a strong impact on both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and projects that can ultimately benefit people with diabetes. This reflects the wishes of our donors and is the purpose of the Foundation. The ultimate goal is to find a working cure for people with diabetes.

Research proposals will be assessed and evaluated according to the following parameters:
  • Relevance to the Foundation's aims and objectives
  • Scientific merit
  • Qualifications and experience of the researcher and the research institution
  • The type of diabetes research

Unsuccessful applicants will be notified of the Board's decision within a reasonable time.
